What's in a Name?
Cuvée
Cuvée has many definitions in the world of winemaking. Typically it refers to wines that are a composition of different varietals that were mixed to create a unique and wonderful tasting experience. Cuvée Ma is exactly that: a blend of three Valaisanne grape varieties that together create a harmonic and rich bouquet.
Ma
Ma is a culmination of things that represent me:
M.A. are my initials backwards. Ma stands for Mathier. Although the name is a shortened version, the wine tradition that the Mathier family embodies is not abbreviated.
In both Thai and Mandarin, “Ma” means horse, which is why I have chosen it as the main motif on the wine bottle. I was also born in the year of the horse, which is how the name Cuvée Ma came about. To tie it all together, I was born in the year of the horse, and thus the name Ma was chosen.
